What was that peso amount worth in today’s money?

Enter an amount and year to see roughly what it would be worth today. This is not a historical exchange-rate conversion, a collectible-note valuation, or a claim that every household faced the same costs.

    Choose the year and amount

Enter the peso amount shown on a payslip, receipt, ad, budget or family record from 1960 onward.

  2. 02

    Compare Philippine price levels

The calculator compares average Philippine consumer prices in the selected year with prices today. It does not use the peso–dollar exchange-rate change.

  3. 03

Read the result as a national estimate

Use the answer as an estimate based on average consumer prices, then check region, wage rules and the particular good when those are central to the question.

Four peso questions that need the right comparison

The same amount can tell a different story when it came from a crisis-year budget, a regional wage order, a household bill or an old banknote.

The 1997 Asian Financial Crisis

Compare what a household peso amount represented before and after the crisis without treating the peso’s fall against the US dollar as the domestic inflation rate.

Example: ₱1,000 in 1997

Regional minimum wages

See what a historical daily wage would be worth today while keeping NCR and other regional wage orders separate.

Example: a day’s statutory pay in NCR

Household receipts and family budgets

Translate an old grocery bill, school expense or rent entry into a national CPI baseline before researching the local item price.

Example: a ₱500 household bill in 1985

Old notes and denominations

Understand what the face amount could broadly buy at the time without presenting it as the collector value of the physical note.

Example: an older ₱100 or ₱1,000 banknote

PSA provides the CPI and rebasing framework; BSP publishes price and exchange-rate tables; NWPC documents regional minimum wages.

What the peso estimate does—and does not—answer

How does the calculator show what a past peso amount is worth today?

It compares average consumer prices in the selected year with prices today. The result shows roughly how much would now be needed to buy a similar mix of everyday goods and services.

What years can I enter?

You can enter Philippine peso amounts from 1960 onward. For an older wartime or post-war record, first identify the currency and date from a historical source.

Is this the same as converting pesos to US dollars?

No. CPI measures domestic consumer prices, while an exchange rate measures one currency against another. The two may interact but do not move by the same percentage.

What changed when PSA rebased CPI from 2012 to 2018?

PSA changed the CPI base year, basket and spending weights. That does not erase earlier price rises. Figures built on different base years must be joined using PSA’s published links or rates of change.

Does one result apply equally to every Philippine region?

No. The national CPI is an average. Regional prices and household spending patterns can differ materially, especially for food, housing and transport.

Can the calculator compare historical minimum wages?

It can show what a wage would be worth today, but Philippine minimum wages are set by region and sometimes by sector or establishment size. Use the wage order that actually applied.

Does the result value an old banknote for collectors?

No. Collector value depends on issue, condition, rarity and market demand. This site estimates what the face amount could broadly buy.

Why are all results shown in today’s money?

Using one year’s prices makes peso amounts from different years easy to compare on the same basis.
